Connecting to Box (for IT)
Wisq can automatically sync files from your Box account — no manual uploads required. This guide walks your Box Admin through the one-time setup.
Prerequisites
- You must be an admin in both Box and Wisq — the same person completes all steps in this guide.
- You need access to the Box Developer Console to create and authorize a platform app.
- Files must be in a supported format (see the Supported File Types section below).
Steps
- Create the Wisq app in the Box Developer Console
- Configure the app's access level and scopes
- Authorize the app and collect your credentials
- Finalize the connection in Wisq
- Share files or folders with the service account
Step 1. Create the Wisq app in the Box Developer Console
- Log in to the Box Developer Console: developer.box.com
- Select Platform Apps
- Click Create New App
- App Name: WisqApp
- App Type: Server
- Authentication Method: Client Credentials Grant
- Click Create
Step 2. Configure the app's access level and scopes
- From Platform Apps, select the newly created WisqApp
- Open the Configuration tab
- Set the following:
- App Access Level: App + Enterprise Access
- Application Scopes: Select Read all files and folders stored in Box and Write all files and folders stored in Box
- Administrative Actions: Select Manage enterprise properties
- Developer Actions: Leave all unchecked (default)
- Additional Configuration: Leave all off (default)
- Click Save
Step 3. Authorize the app and collect your credentials
- On the App details side panel, under the Status section, select Authorize to authorize the app.
- Under the Service Account section, copy the service account email address. This is the address your HR team will share files and folders with.
- Example:
AutomationUser_2656287_Sez6NmRaBb@boxdevedition.com
- Example:
- Collect the three values Wisq needs to complete the connection:
- Client ID — App details side panel, Access section
- Client Secret — App details side panel, Access section
- Enterprise ID — In the Developer Console, click your account icon (top right) and select Copy Enterprise ID
Keep these values handy — you'll paste them into Wisq in the next step.
Step 4. Finalize the connection in Wisq
- Log in to Wisq
- Click your account icon in the bottom left and select Admin Console
- Select Configure on the left side panel
- Select Integrations
- Select Box
- Enter the Client ID, Client Secret, and Enterprise ID
- Click Save
Step 5. Share files or folders with the service account
Now that the app is connected, you can share any files or folders you want Wisq to sync.
- In Box, select a file or folder and choose Share.
- In the invite field, enter the service account email address you copied in Step 3 (e.g.,
AutomationUser_2656287_Sez6NmRaBb@boxdevedition.com). - Set the permission to Viewer and send the invite.
Anything shared with the service account will be picked up by Wisq and appear in the Knowledge tab under the Box folder.
Note on folder sharing: When you share a folder, Wisq will sync all files within it, including subfolders. Only share folders you're comfortable giving Wisq full access to.
Supported File Types
Wisq currently supports the following file formats:
PDF, PPT, PPTX, DOCX, DOC, TXT, CSV, TSV, PNG, JPG, JPEG, GIF, JSON, XLS, XLSX
